July's Mom of the Month

Congratulations to Amanda Singletary, our 'Mom of the Month' for July!

Amanda has been a dedicated member of Stroller Strides with her adorable side-kick, John Clark, since last September. We love her sass, dedication and fun attitude. Amanda is an incredibly hard worker and inspires everyone around her. She's got a fire in her belly when working out, that's for sure, check her out sometime! She has made great strides in fitness, motherhood, and life, and we are so thankful that she is an integral part of our group!

Members of your Family: I am the lady of the house with three gents: Jess, my husband, John Clark, our son, & Gatsby, our yellow lab

Tell us about your children: John Clark was born in April 2015 and is super hashtag precious

Current/previous Career: I spent most of my career in a sales & marketing role within the scientific and pharmaceutical industries

What was your childhood ambition? Saturday Night Live (still is)

What does motherhood mean to you? Motherhood is fantastic and means so much to me. I consider my husband and I "late bloomers". We met later than most couples, got married, both started new jobs, and didn't really map out a plan for starting a family. It wasn't until my husband's life-threatening medical emergency in early 2014 (less than two years into our marriage) that I really felt like motherhood may not even be an option for me. I truly felt like it all was going to slip away. Thankfully, my husband pulled through and John Clark surprised us not long after. He is such a blessing to us both and being his mom means more than I could ever describe on paper.

What is the furthest you have been from home? Hmmm, probably Barbados? I went when I was 16 with my parents. My dad was surfer dude back then.

What has Stroller Strides done for you (or meant to you)? I knew about Stroller Strides because I saw Karen Pelloquin's posts on Facebook and thought it was a great concept. Fast Forward a few years, and there I sat... on my couch-sore from my C-section, connected to my pump, and beyond exhausted wondering if I would ever be back at it again. I considered what type of workouts would I do and how I could even do them or find time. Fitness is very important to me and I was so excited to try a Stroller Strides class during one of the free weeks after I recovered. It was hard but I was hooked! Stroller Strides has given me my strength back--physically and mentally. The moms are so supportive and inspirational and I love that it provides routine and interaction as a new mom.

What is your favorite exercise? It's hard to narrow it down but I love "fire truck" abs!

What is your proudest moment? I can look back on personal achievements in career, etc. but nothing compares to how proud I feel when I watch my husband play with our son and dog in the evenings in the home I have helped create. 2006 me would laugh at that, but 2016 me is pretty darn proud of my little family. ;)

What are three of your favorite things (besides your family!)? 1. I love good food--cooking it, talking/learning about it, and dining on it! 2. lounging by a body of water (ocean, waterway, pool, whateves) 3. pampering--nails, hair, massage, yes please.

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us or makes you unique. I always had a standard office-type job but got certified in Body Step (step aerobics) and taught as a side gig for about five years.

If we asked your spouse what they think your best qualities are, what would they say? I think he'd say that I am loving, funny, and loyal.

What advice would you give to moms looking to get back into shape? Take the Nike approach and just do it. Everything and anything counts...utilize online resources, find your village, etc. I think for new moms especially--fitness is more for sanity than vanity. New moms may hear things like: "You can forget the gym when the baby comes" or "You won't want to workout because there is no time and it's not about you anymore", but it is so important to take care of yourself and block out naysayers when starting your fitness journey.
