February's Mom of the Month

Theresa is a dedicated Stroller Strides and Body Back mama, working out with us since the summer of 2015! Her co-pilot is her adorable son, Connor, and she has a little girl on the way who will make her debut in a month or so! Theresa started classes with Fit4Mom to get out of the house and talk to people, but she quickly realized it was a great way to get in shape, feel better about herself and meet both kiddo and mom friends!

Theresa is a super hard worker and is an inspiration to everyone around her. She has made great strides in fitness, motherhood, and life, and we are so thankful that she is an integral part of Our Village!

Mom of the Month Questions:

Hometown (where you grew up): --right outside of St. Louis

Current part of the Triangle that you live in: --Cary, near Crowder

Education (optional): --undergrad at Ohio State (chemical engineering) and grad at University of Illinois (environmental engineering and microbiology)

Members of your Family: --My husband Jake, son Connor, dog Boo, and cat Max!

Tell us about your children: Connor will be 2 in April and is the light of my life! He's funny, energetic, sweet, and doesn't usually nap. Baby girl is due in one month! ♡

Current/previous Career: --I've been a student all of my life- I was finishing school when we moved out here. I'm very happy to stay at home right now, but eventually I want to work again. Not sure what I'll do exactly, but it will likely be in the engineering/biotech field.

What was your childhood ambition? --That's a tough one... it varied all the time from being a successful doctor or scientist to being a world traveler to living a simple life on the beach.

What does motherhood mean to you? -- It means everything to me. There were many years I never saw myself as a mom. I couldn't picture it and never thought I'd be good at it because I wanted to do so many different things. When I realized I did want kids, I struggled with what my future looked like... and definitely never saw myself in the role I'm currently in. But I love it and I'm happy. Being a mom is who I am now- I can't imagine my life any differently.

What is the furthest you have been from home? --I've been to Africa- once to Kenya and once to Tanzania.

What has Stroller Strides and Body Back done for you (or meant to you)? --When I started SS, it was just nice to get out of the house and talk to people. And I've always been active so it was nice to incorporate that back in to my life. BB was amazing for me- particularly the time to focus on myself and work on a more positive body image. I love being involved in Fit4Mom; not only do I get a great workout but I love having friends in similar situations, and there are always opportunities for Connor to play, learn, make friends.

What is your favorite exercise? --I really like running... I have never been fast, will never be fast, but I'm always happier after I get outside and do it.

What is your proudest moment? --Having Connor

What are three of your favorite things (besides your family!)? --1) The sun/warm weather; 2) being outside- laying on the beach, hiking, etc; 3) pre-kids I would have said traveling but that's not the same anymore ;) now I'd say sitting outside and having a glass of wine and a good conversation with my husband, a good friend, or my mom.

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us or makes you unique. --Two things- neither are particularly crazy but 1) I've been with my husband since I was 15! and 2) I'm a big science nerd.

If we asked your spouse what they think your best qualities are, what would they say? --He would say that I'm nice and caring and that I'm a good mom and wife.

What advice would you give to moms looking to get back into shape? --Just do it! I was nervous when I first started about being the most out of shape and I was feeling insecure about myself post-baby, but I always felt welcomed and found women at all stages of their fitness journey. After every class, I feel better about myself and glad I went!
